WARRIOR (2011)
★★★★★★★★★☆

I’ve never been such a champion of a movie the way I’ve been with this one. It’s my 2011 #1 and I will be recommending this film to people until it gets it’s proper praise, which may or may not ever happen. 

I’ll never know what it was like to be around in the ’70s when ROCKY first came out, but this has gotta be the closest to that feeling I will ever get.

THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN (2011)

Excellent computer-animated film. There’s a few action sequences here that are absolutely astounding. 

THE BEAST WITH FIVE FINGERS (1946)

Really great classic horror film. Had a lot of funny moments and starred the great Peter Lorre. For being a film from the ’40s it had some really amazing special effects.

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS (2011)

As an unapologetic Guy Richie fan, I really liked this film. It’s not that different from the first film, but it’s got cool action the way Richie always delivers. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law obviously had a good time portraying the detective duo.

TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY (2012)

Really enjoyed the hell out of this spy film. It’s a little convoluted, but the performances here are outstanding. Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman deliver as always.

JUST IMAGINE (1930)

A vintage film during BNAT that nobody had ever seen. It was a nice surprise but a little too long I thought.

TRIP TO THE MOON (1902)

The second film of BNAT, this one was shown as a tribute to HUGO.

I’ve seen clips of this film but never the entire thing. It helped to appreciate it after seeing HUGO, but it really is an impressive piece of filmmaking.

HUGO (2011)

This was the first film of first ever Buttnumbathon, a truly unique filmgoing experience. It’s a 24+ hour marathon of films both new and old as part of a celebration of the birthday of local film critic Harry Knowles.

Still enjoyable the second time, and as with most films seems a little swifter paced upon repeat viewing. 

THE DESCENDANTS (2011)

A good performance by George Clooney, but nothing that seemed very challenging for him. A good film, nothing great, but it’ll surely win many an award this season.

THE SITTER (2011)

A decent, but fairly forgettable comedy. I enjoyed it more than most, but it’s not bad overall.

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN (2011)

Really a fantastic film about very disturbing events. Ezra Miller and Tilda Swinton turn in some really great performances here. Not necessarily a film I’d see more than once but it’s backed by a really creepy character and the damage he’s inflicted on his family.

HUGO (2011)

Really enjoyed this love letter to classic cinema. Great use of 3D, but I don’t think as essential as others made it seem. Still, amazing film overall.

DEMOLITION MAN (1993)

Saw this at a Master Pancake show. It was a Choose Your Own, and I wish Over the Top had been chosen, but this was still a good time.
